Have you tried Basho Academy yet? If so, we have some great new content coming in 2017. If not, you’ll want to plan on trying it out in 2017. Basho Academy is a free online learning tool for Riak users of all experience levels. Academy contains a collection of courses, from Introduction to Riak TS to the Spark-Riak Connector. I am happy to share a few upcoming improvements planned for Academy in 2017. Before we discuss the future let’s think about the past and present of Academy.
#### Past and Present
We started Academy with two goals, which perhaps mirror your own. First, we want to create engaging courses that allow new users to get Riak up and running quickly. Second, Academy is designed to help current users dig in and expand their familiarity with the full family of Riak products.
One of the first courses we created was the Introduction to Riak TS course. It includes an installation demo, a set of common Riak TS terms, and a guide that outlines what gets installed where on the server. While most Academy content requires that you set up a free account, you do not need a login to access this course! This is a great way to see what the Academy is like. If you haven’t done so already, we encourage you to try it out.
The Academy offers several courses to help users expand their knowledge of Riak products. In 2016 we focused on Riak TS. Such courses include: an operations course for system administrators that details how to install and configure Riak TS, and an application integration course for software developers to set up Riak TS as a backend for their application.
Without a doubt, 2016 was a great start to the Academy. But what’s next? Let’s dive into some exciting updates and courses! New topics we will be focusing on include: Riak topology, fundamentals, and how to build applications on Riak.
In addition to the many courses planned for 2017, we will also introduce some great new learning tools. You can expect more video tutorials, more real-life user examples, and more interactivity.
Basho Academy will be releasing many practical and interesting courses in 2017! If you do not already have an Academy account, sign up now to start learning. If you have completed the current courses feel free to request new training or submit feedback here. To receive updates when new courses become available, watch for updates on the Basho Blog, or join the Academy Community Forum.
